I redesigned Facebook news feed page using some "Material" guidelines and applied in the process a little bit of non-research-based UX enhancements, aka my personal taste!
- Sidebar containing ads and other random/variable/related stuff was removed to reduce UI clutter
- Navigation was replaced with an off-canvas one

- Global navigation has been simplified and flattened to be more focused
- Secondary navigation was injected into the main one, so we would have a single place to which the user would go to find what he wants

- Page title was added as a hint for the user to know where he currently is

- FB Chat was moved to the left side and off-canvas navigation to the right, do you think this was a bad idea?
- Post statistics and action buttons were visually separated from the commenting area since they are two different things
- Material plus button was added from which user can add his status, photos, videos, or whatever
